Paris
September 2005
Primary Contact: Guillaume du Bourguet

Trainers

  • Lynn Leith, DAISY Consortium: course lead
  • Olaf Mittelstaedt, BBR and SBS: presenter
  • Christian Gilbert, CNIB: presenter

Guillaume du Bourguet arranged to borrow sufficient laptops for the course participants, and also provided a desktop with JAWS for the JAWS user in the group. All of the computers were set up and software for all programs installed and checked on Sunday September 25th. The course spanned four days: Monday September 26th to Thursday September 29th.

Participants

Participants attending were from French DAISY producing organizations in Belgium, Switzerland and France: ONA, BRS, AVH, GIAA. There were 13 participants including Guillaume du Bourguet. French public television recorded some of the activities at the end of the final day of the course. Christian Gilbert, as a French speaking presenter, and Guillaume du Bourguet were interviewed.

Overview of Topics Covered

Participants' areas of expertise and skill levels in DAISY production varied widely. Tools covered, theories and information covered are detailed in the agenda. Principles of DAISY DTB production, the DAISY Structure Guidelines, transition from DAISY 2.02 to DAISY/NISO, etc. were covered in detail. Structuring problems and options were discussed at length.

Additional information identified during the course and a WORD script which produces source files for DAISY 2.02 type 2 books with LpStudio/Pro, were distributed with the course evaluation forms on the day following the course.

Some of the material was compiled from and presented using the DAISY Knowledge Network

Note that this it was a very full agenda for a four day course. Some topics were covered in detail, others were very briefly covered. More time for practice with the tools would have been beneficial for the participants.
